Top tips to taking care of your body

As we get older, we tend to focus on looking after other people and often neglect ourselves. It is so important that we also care and protect ourselves as much as we protect our loved ones. We all get told to eat well and exercise more, but what about the simpler things in life? In this blog post, we are going to share with you several SIMPLE, yet effective ways, to improve your mental and physical health by making small important changes to your daily life.

Here are our top tips for taking care of yourself for a healthier and happier mind and body:

1. Wake up early

Start your day right by waking up early. Although it is tempting to try and extend your sleep as much as possible it is important not to induce stress by rushing about in the morning. Instead, try waking up with enough time to plan your day. Read, write, do some yoga, meditate, or go to the gym. If you take the time to take care of yourself before you start a day’s work, your body will feel appreciated.

2. Eat Well

Before setting off for the day, make sure you have a good healthy breakfast. As the saying goes “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Skipping breakfast can leave you feeling lethargic with a lack of energy for the rest of the day. 3. Drink Water

4. Be mindful

As we near the end of 2019, and head into 2020, make an effort to be more mindful and present. Become more present in the moment and focus on your surroundings. Put your phone away when eating, or travelling to work. Start to be present and appreciate what you are doing. As a result your mind will feel more rested, your body will feel at peace, and you will become more aware of your surroundings. Align yourself with the Universe by stopping and appreciating life as you live it.

5. Say No

You cannot do everything. Learn to say no. Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to be the best version of ourselves and pleasing everyone around us, we say yes to everything. This can create stress as we become frustrated in trying to accomplish so many things at once. We often take on too much than we can handle. Reduce stress by saying no and your mind and body will thank you.

6. Meditation

Try meditating at least once a week. Meditation reduces stress, controls anxiety, lengthens attention span, and has been found to improve memory. Make sure that you are sat comfortably in a quiet room and allow the silence and serenity to surround you. Meditation will help balance your mind and if done in the morning, will prepare you for your day ahead.

7. Be Positive

Try to be positive in whatever you can. No matter how bad a day you are having, there will always be some good in whatever you have or whatever you are doing. Focus on the positives!

8. Take Time

Take more time to do something for yourself. Whether it is reading a book, taking a vacation, going for a walk, listening to music….do something that you enjoy. Do something that makes you relax or have fun. Your body and mind will thank you.

9. Write a journal

Write a gratitude journal of your thoughts, worries, gratitude, daily accounts, or anything which crosses your mind. Keep your journal beside your bed and make a habit of writing a few paragraphs or sentences before you go to sleep each night. By writing down what you are thankful for, what you have achieved, and anything which worries you, your mind will feel less cluttered, full of gratitude, and able to sleep more easy.

10. Love Yourself

Remind yourself you are fabulous and are worthy of love. Give yourself the love you deserve. Do not let deadlines or a demanding job get you down. Keep reminding yourself of your achievements and everything you have accomplished. Your mind and body are your most valuable assets and need to be looked after.
