Around this time of year, and before the modern era of tractor lights, farmers used the light of the full moon to help them see at night so they could harvest their crops. The Autumnal equinox full moon usually begins on September 23rd, but for the first time in 19 years, this year’s Harvest moon actually coincides with Friday 13th!
This year’s Harvest Moon is particularly special and is called a Micromoon. The moon will appear slightly smaller than usual because of its orbit. A Micromoon occurs when the Full Moon is close the Lunar Apogee, the point at which the Moon is farthest from the Earth.
